The Statement of Canada Practice with Respect to the Mitigation of Seismic Sound in the Marine Environment, (The Statement), was recently released by the Federal and Provincial Governments. The Statement contains mitigation measures, which can assist in minimizing the impacts of seismic activity that use air source arrays, in marine waters. These mitigation measures were developed based on available scientific knowledge and can be considered current best practice. Operators planning to carry out geophysical activities under C-NLOPB jurisdiction should become familiar with the Statement. The C-NLOPB has incorporated the Statement into the Geophysical, Geological, Environmental and Geotechnical Program Guidelines and associated application forms.
